Shocking Facts About Finland
Finland is a Nordic country located in Northern Europe and while it is not as well known as its other Scandinavian neighboring countries, it does have an interesting history and is full of rich culture. The country has some laws that are considered to be a bit weird, and others that make it seem the most sensible country in the world. But all in all, it is one of the best countries in the world when we consider it in detail and consider every aspect of it. It is also very beautiful, with very friendly people too.
Today we are going to talk about some of the most interesting facts about Finland that make it very unique and attractive in its own sense. So, let’s start with the first fact right away!

Did you know that the Nordic countries frequently and consistently rank at the top of the UN's annual World Happiness Reports? But in the year 2020, Finland went ahead the rest of the countries in order to finish at the top of the pile.
These rankings take into account many different factors such as life expectancy, the freedom for making life choices, the economic strength, generosity of people, and social support from friends, perceived corruption, and the views of the survey respondents for making a final list of the top countries that are the “happiest” ones.

According to the preliminary data from statistics of Finland, the country's population was around 5,532,333 at the end of August 2020. If you compare it to 5,374,807 of Norway at the end of July 2020, it means that Finland now has more overall population than Norway.

Thanks to all the statistical reports that Finland conducts, it is found that almost a majority of its people live in the Helsinki region! At the start of the year 2020, there were around 423,494 people with a foreign background living in Finland and of those, 209,108 lived in the Greater Helsinki region. And the people with a Somali and Indian background have the greatest concentration in the capital region of Finland.

You should know that Swedish is an important language in Finland. It is actually so important, that it has an official language status along with Finnish in Finland. Swedish is spoken mostly in the western and southern coast areas of Finland; and as many as 5% of Finns consider Swedish their native language, which is very surprising.

I think that almost all people would think that Europe's coffee capital would be countries like Italy or France but no, it isn’t like that! It is actually the Finns that consume more coffee per capita as compared to any other country in not just the Europe, but the entire world. This is surprising right? The average person in Finland consumes an astonishing 12 kilograms of coffee every year. Drinking 7 or more cups of coffee per day would not be considered unusual or unhealthy in Finland.

According to many reports, it is estimated that the number of saunas in Finland is at around two million. This is very astonishing right? That's not bad for a population of only 5.3 million! These saunas can be found in city apartments, forest cabins, and even some big companies and state institutions. Well, it is apparent that the people of Finland sure love their saunas!
