Second lockdown in UK is an 'unmitigated disaster'

Spiked Online Editor Brendan O’Neil says the UK government is using scary predictions, which have been proven false, to terrorise the population into accepting a lockdown which promises a destructive impact on businesses, jobs and people’s health.

The UK has been shut down with all non-essential venues closed throughout the country for the next four weeks.

As the country attempts to suppress growing COVID-19 numbers, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is insisting the lockdown will end on December 2.

“It’s an unmitigated disaster in my view,” Mr O’Neil told Sky News host Rowan Dean.

“There’s no justification for this lockdown as far as I can see.

“When the government was pushing the second lockdown, it said if we don’t take this course of action there could potentially be 4000 deaths a day from COVID.

“That is complete and utter nonsense.

“There haven’t been 4000 deaths a day in any country on earth from COVID including in much larger countries than the UK, and that particular prediction has been utterly destroyed over the past few days, people have revealed it is complete nonsense.

“This is looking like the government’s dodgy dossier moment, where they are using scary predictions to try to terrorise the population into accepting a lockdown which will have a destructive impact on businesses, a catastrophic impact on jobs and a terrible impact on people’s health.”
