New Govind Rao Military Hotel, Bangalore serves up popular local style non vegetarian fare, and has amassed a loyal following drawing from its 110 year-old legacy. Customers flood the establishment as early as 6am for their steaming hot pulav that is prepared in an interesting fashion. The rice here is cooked in a meaty stock and not with the meat itself! One can order a Mutton/Chicken Pulav or a khaali (plain) pulav.

In this episode of Gourmet On The Road, Food Lovers’ Editor, Kripal Amanna samples a meaty spread that includes the mutton pulav, Kheema Unde, a Mutton Liver Fry and a couple of robust chicken sides. He also gives viewers an inside look at the kitchens of New Govind Rao Military Hotel to discover the making of these popular dishes.

GOURMET ON THE ROAD RATING
KHEEMA UNDE
The unde or meat ball is made of finely minced mutton mixed with a bit of fat and sinew. you can taste the roasted gram flour/ binder in the mixture too. this takes away from the meat flavour but a tasty dish nonetheless.
Rs 100.
7/10

MUTTON LIVER FRY
The liver itself tastes fine, but with topped with that well roasted masala, this dish tastes robust and complete!
Rs 100
8/10

CHICKEN PEPPER DRY
Chicken that is big in flavour! the pepper and roasted spice masala coating is fingerlicking good.
Rs 90.
9/10

CHILLI CHICKEN
This chicken is cooked tender with a nice chilli heat that’s not overpowering. a great combo with the mellow pulao.
Rs 90.
