11.2 km bicycling trip from downtown Kuala Lumpur to Mont Kiara, where my Danish friend, Peter Sehested, earlier this year has opened a very popular café called Kopenhagen Coffee.

And what better way to arrive at a Danish style café than by bicycle? In Copenhagen (my home town), 50 percent of the residents commute to/from work by bicycle. This includes members of parliament. Bicycling is second nature in Denmark. It's also good for society, as about RM1 (USD0.23) is saved for every 1 kilometer people bicycle instead of driving. This saving mostly comes from the health benefits of cycling and reduced strain on the health sector (Danish study).

This 31 minute bicycling trip starts around 1:30 pm on a Sunday afternoon, so more or less at the hottest time of the day. No wonder, I'm quite sweaty when I arrive at the café.

On the way, I pass by the architecturally beautiful Mercu Kerja Raya building, which is an energy efficient high rise that saves 60 percent of the energy - or approx. USD550,000 per year (or RM2.4 million per year). Impressive! Okay, I'm not being entirely objective here, as my company were the energy efficiency consultants for this project :-)

I also ride through the green roads in Bukit Tunku with only little traffic. And by-pass the highway barrier at Jalan Duta (near the National Tennis Stadium and the Hockey Stadium), which requires some riding on the sidewalk. Insufficiently pruned bushes makes the passage difficult.

And I pass by the shopping malls of Publica, Solaris and Plaza Mont Kiara.

Eventually, with a bit more bicycling on the sidewalk - and taking care not being a nuisance to the pedestrians - I arrive at Jalan Kiara 3, the address of Kopenhagen Coffee.

Once I enter Kopenhagen Coffee, the owner immediately makes sure that I get a glass of ice water, as I must have looked very sweaty :-) Peter also confirms that I'm the first customer to have arrived in 'Copenhagen style', i.e. by bicycle. Ohh, well, somebody has to be the first and start a trend - hopefully(!)

At the end of the video, I ask my friend to give a quick assessment of the café - and she is very positive :-)

Enjoy the video!
