The Annaberg Sugar Plantation was established in the late 1790's by Danish colonists and constructed by enslaved workers. Annaberg was one 25 active sugar producing factories on St John. Annaberg was the largest of these factories and is the most preserved. It produced 100,000 tons of sugar each year, as well as molasses, and rum. We toured the walking trails, factory ruins, slave quarters, windmill, and other remains. This is a great stop as you tour the beautiful island of St John.

The Port of Indecision would like to recognize Rita Mahowald who volunteers at the USVI National Park Visitors Center at Cruz Bay for sharing all her island information with us and telling us that her husband Mark gives tours at the Sugar Mill. POI would also like to thank Mark Mahowald for the excellent and informative tour he provided at the Annaberg Sugar Plantation.
