Lots of factors influence our happiness- The weather, our jobs, our financial stability, and the people around us all have an effect on our happiness. If you are living in a poor country full of crime and corruption, the chances are you're not going to be very happy. If you're living in a wealthy country with ample employment and lovely weather, the chances are you're going to be more content. so if you're searching for happiness, here are the 10 Happiest Countries in the World.

10. Luxembourg
The beautiful little country with a population of only around half a million people has high salaries and a minimum 5 weeks a year vacation policy. Its solid social security system gives retired citizens economic stability, and free health care, whilst its cosmopolitan cities attract younger people, without losing their safe small-town feel which is bolstered by low crime rates.

9. Austria.
High life expectancy, low crime rates, and a strong social security system are some of the reasons why over 73% of Austrians are happy with their lives. Although, rich culture and architecture, extensive wine country, alpine skiing, and impressive panoramic views wherever you look, probably help too!

8. New Zealand.
It's people's "Work to live" and not "Live to Work" attitude is a big reason why New Zealanders are so happy, although this attitude wouldn't be possible without a strong economy and social security system. New Zealand also has a wealth of natural beauty the never fails to leave you in awe, so when they're not working, you'll find most new Zealanders have "Gone Walkabout".

7. Sweden.
A high GDP per capita, high life expectancy, and good social support. Swedes get 16 months of paid maternity leave the can be shared between the couple as they choose. they also get free daycare, this makes it easier to work and form a family so people don't have to choose between the two. This social equality is taught throughout the education system which is also free, along with health care and even free college education.

6. The Netherlands.
Windmills, canals, acres of tulip fields and cycling routes all sounds idyllic, and probably is. The Dutch way of life is a careful balance between work and leisure that not only means the adults are happy, but the children are also. Dutch children are rated the happiest in the world thanks to the Dutch education, security, and health services.

5. Norway.
One of the prettiest countries in Europe, Norway also has a competent government and a prosperous economy that respects its natural resources and has little or no corruption. Add free education, healthcare, and public pensions and what's there not to be happy about!

4. Iceland.
Free healthcare, free Higher education, low-income tax, and a strong sense of equality are some of the factors which make Icelanders happy. A good balance between work and leisure also helps and with a landscape the looks like it's from another world, it's easy to escape the one we live in when you want to.

3. Switzerland.
Switzerland has just about everything, Great healthcare, welfare, public transport, and economy. it has a direct democracy system which means virtually everything is voted on, referendums happen many times a year and the swiss citizens can decide on anything from, the number of vacation days they have, to whether a traffic light should be installed. This gives them a sense of being an active part of their country and a feeling that every voice matters.

2. Denmark.
Denmark has one of the smallest wealth gaps in the world. It's a small country with low levels of crime and public corruption. It has the highest taxes in the world but also has High-quality free healthcare, free education, subsidized childcare, and free state pensions. The legal working week is 37.5 hours so the Danes have plenty of free time too.

The happiest country is Finland, yet another Nordic country (they are obviously doing something right!) The top education system in the world, based more on experiential learning and equal opportunity than quantitive testing. Equality is part of their culture and Finland is the only country in the world where fathers spend more time with school-aged children than mothers.
Little to no corruption, a high GDP per capita, public healthcare, and social security give people stability and freedom whilst the beautiful natural landscapes and culture give them peace and relaxation. The perfect place to live, or to visit and hopefully a benchmark for other countries to strive for.
