Koh Rong island is the Cambodia's second largest after Koh Kong island. Since 2013, Koh Rong island has started to get better known gradually to the world, especially after several Reality TV Show program filmed on Koh Rong, such as French TV show called "Koh Lanta, Denmark's TV show called "Bikini island', Bulgarian TV show called "Bulgarian Survivor', Swedish TV show called "Robinson Love Edition" and American TV Show called "US Survivor Cambodia Second Chance'. All these TV shows were filmed from 2013 to 2015 on Koh Rong island. This has made Koh Rong more and more popular.

As of now 2019, Koh Rong has officially become the City of Koh Rong under the provincial administration of Sihanoukville Province. Koh Rong is now under a rapid transformation, especially the development of tourism.
