Enrico Letta is a former Italian prime minister and now president of the Jacques Delors Institute and dean of the Paris School of International Affairs. He discusses the possible impact of the French elections on the EU, ahead of the May 7 run-off between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen. Letta believes the EU would not survive with Le Pen as president and says the French elections are "almost a European election, but without the Italians or the Irish or the Spanish able to vote".
Without "a strong pro-European push from France and Germany, I think the European Union will collapse", the former Italian leader warns. "It is impossible to go ahead with business as usual", he adds.
Enrico Letta also touches on the EU's handling of the refugee crisis and the upcoming Brexit negotiations.
