SURAT THANI, THAILAND - One day for lunch, when we weren’t filming a full street food tour video, I wanted to have a leisure family lunch at an old Thai Chinese food restaurant in Surat Thani, called Soon Hiang Restaurant (ร้านอาหารทะเล ซุ่นเฮียง). #hotpot #Thailand #SuratThani

I loved the look of the old restaurant, with retro and original decor. From the tables to the floor and the decoration, absolutely classic. We had a chance to talk with the owner and chef, from the restaurant's family, who was very friendly and explained that his food was Teochew Chinese style.

Among the Thai Chinese Teochew dishes you can order, just about everyone who eats at Soon Hiang Restaurant (ร้านอาหารทะเล ซุ่นเฮียง) must get the pomfret steamboat (also known as a charcoal hot pot). It was delicious, simple, and I love pomfret - every chance I get to eat it, I love it.

In addition to the pomfret hot pot, what really stood out to me was the sauce used for the fish which was a perfect combination of fermented soy bean sauce, some kind of acidity, and ginger for flavor.

Awesome restaurant, classic style, and delicious pomfret steamboat!
